The Cornish Backpack is a unique backpack design from Country Cow Designs. What makes this backpack different from others? The straps come through the top of the bag, making it more difficult for people to take things out of your bag whilst you’re wearing it. It also allows you to carry it on your arm like a tote when you need to.
Other features include a magnetic snap and optional zipper closure panel that folds flat within the bag. It has two front pockets that are sized to carry a standard drinks bottle or your flip flops. It’s sized to fit a standard/small laptop, such as a Microsoft Surface, with room to spare.
Materials required:
- 17″ No.5 zipper tape & 1 zipper pull (optional)
- 13″ No.3 zip
- 1 x Magnetic snap
- 2 x 1″ Rectangle rings
- 2 x 1″ Strap sliders
- 2 x 1″ Oblong grommets
- 7 x 6mm Rivets

I love this pattern. Countrycow beats anyone hands down on her video instructions. This was my first bag I made with her pattern and instruction (I’ve made about 40 since then – all her designs!) As a complete beginner I could still make a fabulous professional bag that I was so proud of. I gave it to my artist niece who has battered and abused it and it is still holding strong. This is an unique design, and so versatile. I confess I’ve tried a few other pattern makers and tutorials, but nothing comes close to the guidance you get here.

I bought this as I had a small piece of hand printed fabric that I knew would look good as a back pack. I teamed it with mora faux leather. It’s a fabulous pattern which has some great detail that makes the bag look really classy. Love the small triangles for the Drings.! It doesn’t use vast amounts of fabric hence I could use my off cut of hand printed cotton. Highly recommend this pattern it’s a great size for a day trip.

Another winner! I like the way the linings in Jo’s designs always fit beautifully no baggy linings. This was an easy make probably due to the amazing way she writes her instructions. Every detail is included and her videos are brilliant too!
