Looking to make your first ever tote? This pattern is designed for first time sewists and is a great project if you’re sewing with kids. This super simple bag comes together in no time and results in a practical and fun bag for everyone. We sincerely hope this pattern will encourage new sewists and kids to give bag making a try! This pattern is suitable for beginners who are looking to sew their first ever project.

The pattern includes three sizes: mini, medium and massive. The three sizes nest within each other.

This bag is suitable for most fabrics including cotton, canvas, cork, vinyl and leather. Whatever fabrics you decide to use, make sure they’re suitable for your sewing machine. For domestic machines, it’s usually best to stick with cotton for your first bag.

MINI: 8” x 6” x 3 ¾” [20.25cm x 15.25cm x 9.5cm]
MEDIUM: 9 ½” x 7” x 5 ½” [24cm x 17.75cm x 14cm]
MASSIVE: 12” x 8 ½” x 6 ½” [30.5cm x 21.5cm x 16.5cm]

  • 1/2 yd (50cm) Exterior fabric (44″/110cm wide)*
  • 1/2 yd (50cm) Lining fabric (44″/110cm wide)*
  • 1/2 yd (50cm) Medium weight fusible woven interfacing (35″/90cm wide)
  • 1/2 yd (50cm) Fleece stabiliser such as Thermolam (20″/50cm wide)
  • 56″ (150cm) Webbing for the handles (1″/25mm wide)

*Measurements account for directional fabrics.
