IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION:
Product Identification & Scope
Product Name: Small Plastic Hardware for Bag Making
Product Type: Non-food consumer articles for crafting and accessory creation.
Intended Use: For the assembly and decoration of textile or leather bags, purses, and similar accessories by adult consumers.
Identified Risks & Mitigation Measures
The primary risks associated with small metal hardware are mechanical hazards, particularly concerning ingestion and injury.
- Choking Hazard:
Small parts, such as individual rivets, D-rings, or components of swivel hooks, can be a severe choking hazard if swallowed, especially by young children. During use always keep small hardware out of reach of children and pets during the bag-making process. Work in a dedicated, secure area. Store all unused hardware in sealed containers or bags, clearly labelled and out of reach of children and vulnerable individuals. hen designing and assembling bags, ensure that all hardware is securely attached and unlikely to detach under normal and reasonably foreseeable use. Consider using methods that make detachment difficult (e.g. strong rivets, reinforced stitching, permanent setting). Include prominent warnings on packaging and instructions regarding the choking hazard, especially for items not intended for children's products.
- Sharp Edges or Points
Some hardware, if broken, may have sharp edges or points that could cause cuts or punctures. Exercise caution when handling hardware. Consider wearing gloves, especially when dealing with large quantities or during assembly that requires force (e.g., setting rivets). Ensure all sharp components (like rivet backs) are fully enclosed or dulled once set into the bag material. Before and after assembly, inspect hardware for any sharp edges or defects. Discard any defective parts safely.
- Ingestion/Internal Injury
While primarily a choking hazard, ingested small metal parts could potentially cause internal injury or blockages. The mitigation strategies for choking hazards also apply here, emphasizing prevention of ingestion. In case of accidental ingestion, seek immediate medical attention.
- Allergic Reactions
Our plastic hardware could cause allergic skin reactions in sensitive individuals. If you have an allergy to plastic, we recommend avoiding the use of our plastic hardware.
- Functional Failure / Detachment
If hardware is not correctly chosen for the intended load or is improperly attached, it may fail or detach, potentially leading to the bag breaking or contents spilling, which could cause minor injury or damage. Our hardware is not strength tested and is only intended for use on general use bags. It is not suitable for use on other projects. Select hardware appropriate for the weight and stress it will endure. For example, larger D-rings and thicker swivel hooks for heavy-duty bags. Follow the instructions for use of each individual piece of hardware. These instructions can be found on the product page of the website. Regularly inspect finished bags for signs of wear, loosening hardware, or damage. Replace or repair as needed.
- Dangers to Children
Small hardware presents a significant danger to children, particularly those under three years old, due to the choking hazard posed by small parts. Even for older children, there is a risk of ingestion or injury from sharp edges if the hardware detaches from a bag. Never allow children to play with loose small hardware. Products made with this hardware should be kept out of reach of young children. Our hardware has not been tested for use on products involving children. Our products are often packaged in plastic bags to protect them during transit. Plastic bags pose a suffocation risk and should be kept our of reach of children at all times.
- Prohibited Uses
This small hardware should NOT be used for: Toys or children's products (especially for children under 3 years old). Safety-critical applications where failure of the hardware could lead to serious injury or death (e.g., climbing equipment, personal protective equipment). Oral contact or ingestion. Direct skin contact for prolonged periods if not confirmed to be nickel-free or hypoallergenic, especially for individuals with sensitivities. Applications where extreme temperatures or corrosive environments could compromise the integrity of the metal.
- Packaging:
We often package fabrics in plastic bags to keep them dry and clean during transit. To avoid danger of suffocation, keep plastic bags away from children and babies.

IMPORTANT PRODUCT SAFETY INFORMATION
Product Name: Polyester Webbing (for Bag Straps)
Intended Use: Primarily for crafting and DIY projects, specifically for creating straps, handles, and reinforcement in bags, totes, backpacks, and other textile items.
Target User: Adult consumers, from beginners to experienced crafters and makers.
Product Description: A strong, flat, woven fabric material, typically made from polyester fibres, designed for strength and durability. Available in various widths, thicknesses, and colours.
Hazards: While polyester webbing is generally safe for its intended use, certain hazards can arise, particularly during handling, cutting, and application. This product is designed to be safe under normal and reasonably foreseeable conditions of use, presenting only minimum risks compatible with its function as a strapping material. Risks are primarily physical in nature, related to its woven structure and response to heat.
- Fraying & Loose Threads: When cut, polyester webbing can fray significantly, producing numerous loose threads. These threads can:
- Create an untidy finish.
- Potentially tangle in sewing machine mechanisms, causing operational issues (e.g., needle breakage, thread jams).
- Cause minor skin irritation or discomfort upon prolonged contact with unfinished edges.
- Sharp Edges (Cut Webbing): While generally soft, the newly cut ends of webbing can sometimes present a slightly rough or stiff edge, especially if cut with dull tools, potentially causing minor abrasions. If you experience minor cuts or abrasions: Clean the Wound: Wash the affected area thoroughly with soap and warm water. Disinfect: Apply an antiseptic solution or wipe. Cover: Cover with a clean bandage if necessary. Monitor: Watch for signs of infection (redness, swelling, increased pain, pus). Seek medical attention if infection occurs.
- Melting & Burns: Polyester is a thermoplastic material that will melt when exposed to high heat (e.g., from a hot iron, heat gun, open flame, or friction from machinery). Contact with molten material can cause severe thermal burns. Burning polyester can also produce irritating fumes so only use heat on webbing when in a well ventilated area. Many consumers use a lighter or other source of heat to melt the end of the webbing. This could cause irritating fumes or burns. If you experience thermal burns from molten webbing: Cool Immediately: Cool the burn rapidly with cool (not cold or ice) running water for at least 10-20 minutes. Do NOT Remove Molten Material: Do not attempt to peel off any molten webbing stuck to the skin, as this can cause further tissue damage. Seek Medical Attention: For any thermal burn, especially if severe or covering a large area, seek immediate medical attention.
- Material Allergies/Sensitization: While rare, some individuals may have sensitivities or allergic reactions to the polyester material or the dyes used in the webbing. This could manifest as skin irritation upon prolonged contact. (Note: Polyester is generally considered a low-allergen material). If you suffer from allergies to polyester or dyes, we recommend taking precautions such as wearing gloves while handling, or avoid using this product altogether. If you experience an allergic reaction or skin irritation: Discontinue contact with the product. Wash the affected skin thoroughly with soap and water. If irritation persists or worsens, consult a medical professional.
- Colour Fastness/Dye Transfer: Under certain conditions (e.g., prolonged exposure to moisture, high temperatures, specific chemicals/solvents, or friction), dyes used in the webbing may bleed or transfer to adjacent fabrics, skin, or other surfaces, potentially causing staining. While not a direct safety hazard, it impacts product integrity and consumer satisfaction.
- Sewing Machine Stress/Damage: Very thick or multi-layered webbing, especially when combined with other heavy materials, can put excessive strain on domestic sewing machines, potentially leading to needle breakage, bent needles, skipped stitches, or damage to the machine's internal components.
- Load-Bearing Capacity: While strong, this webbing is NOT intended for critical load-bearing applications such as safety harnesses, lifting equipment, pet leashes (unless specifically designed and tested for such), or anything where failure could result in injury to humans or animals. Its strength is suitable for bag straps but not for life-support or high-stress applications.
- Store Safely: Keep webbing rolls organized and stored away from direct heat sources and out of reach of young children and pets.
- Clear Workspace: Maintain a clear, well-lit, and organized crafting area to prevent accidents.
- Clean Cuts: Use sharp fabric scissors or a rotary cutter with a self-healing mat for clean, precise cuts. Dull tools can lead to more fraying and rough edges.
- Fray Prevention (Heat Sealing): For polyester webbing, the most effective method to prevent fraying is heat sealing the cut ends but this can lead to burns or fire if not performed in a safe manner. You should only use this method if you have safe heating equipment and experience using it safely. Carefully pass the cut edge of the webbing through a small, controlled flame (e.g., from a lighter or candle) or use a hot knife tool. Caution: Work in a well-ventilated area. Do NOT hold the webbing directly in the flame; just briefly pass the very edge through. The aim is to slightly melt the fibres to create a sealed edge, not to burn or discolour the webbing. Allow the melted edge to cool completely before touching. Keep a fire extinguisher or a bowl of water nearby. Alternative: If heat sealing isn't desired or possible, fold and sew the raw edges into seams or use fray check liquid sealant such as fray check.
- Sewing Machine Suitability: Heavy Duty Needle: Use a heavy-duty needle (e.g., a "Jeans" or "Denim" needle, size 90/14 or 100/16) in your sewing machine when sewing webbing, especially if going through multiple layers.
- Appropriate Thread: Use strong, all-purpose polyester thread.
- Machine Capability: If your domestic sewing machine struggles with the thickness of the webbing and other materials, consider using a walking foot attachment or a more powerful industrial-style machine. Do not force the webbing through, as this can break needles and damage the machine.
- Dye Fastness Testing: If concerned about dye transfer, especially with light-coloured fabrics or items that will be frequently washed, perform a patch test on an inconspicuous area before full application. Dampen a small piece of webbing and press it against a scrap of your main fabric to check for bleeding.
- Ironing/Heat Application: Polyester webbing generally does not require ironing. If pressing is necessary, use a low to medium heat setting and always use a pressing cloth to prevent direct contact with the hot iron, which could melt or scorch the webbing. Avoid direct contact with extremely hot surfaces.
- Limitations and Misuse Prevention: NOT for Safety-Critical Use: This webbing is NOT certified for safety-critical applications. Do NOT use it for safety harnesses, lifting straps for heavy objects, pet restraints for aggressive animals, or any purpose where failure could cause injury or death.
- Weight Limits for Bags: While strong, the finished bag strap strength will depend on the webbing's inherent strength, the stitching method, the thread used, and the hardware (buckles, D-rings). Ensure all components are suitable for the anticipated weight of the bag's contents. We have not tested this webbing for a specific weight/strength.
Regulation (GPSR) (EU) 2023/988 and all other applicable EU legislation.
