I would recommend this as an advanced pattern if you’re making the side pockets or an intermediate without pockets.
This unique barrel bag is almost like two patterns in one. Instructions are included to make it with the side pockets, or without. This pattern is a great opportunity to improve your skills working with curves, zips and binding. There’s a detachable crossbody strap that connects to the rectangle rings and two size options for handles. You’ll love this sewing project and at the end you’ll have an incredibly unique bag that’s perfect for everyday use.
An additional short video is available showing how to add D-ring connectors to the end panels if you want to make just a crossbody strap and no handles, as shown on the grey, no pockets bag in the photos. The pattern calls for Decovil light for stabiliser. However, many of the testers used other stabilisers instead. Please see below for full details on each tester bag. The pattern does NOT include instructions for rolled handles. However, my Vekza pattern does include this option if you’re looking for an opportunity to try rolled handles.
The pattern includes step by step photo instructions to guide you through the process of making this bag. There’s also a full video tutorial that you can watch alongside the pattern. Check out the beautiful tester bags for fabric ideas and inspiration.

This bag is amazing so cute and I love that it can be worth or without side pockets. The instructions are so clear and easy to follow. I used vinyl for the first time with this bag and it still turned out amazing. Thank you for an amazing pattern.

Absolutely adore this pattern. The instructions are clear and concise, and the tutorial video is extremely useful. I’ve made several and everyone loves them.

I did the sew-along for this bag and managed to achieve a creditable result thanks to the detailed instructions. It’s an unusual design, I think it would be good for use as a knitting bag for example. My domestic machine struggled with the final step of binding the seam allowances through all the layers and the result is pretty unsightly but that’s all hidden inside the bag interior. I didn’t try the zippered end pockets but they look like they would be useful. The bag size is fairly small, I would be interested to try scaling the bag up by say 25%.

I love the versatility of the Lowarn and that you can make it as complex as you want to. I made mine with short handles and without pockets. I thoroughly enjoyed following the instructions and the challenge of a different shape of bag. Brilliant – thank you.
