Full Video Tutorial

This is one of our first video tutorials but I'm sure you will still find it really helpful.

This mini backpack is great for kids and adults alike. It has NO binding and NO drop-in lining. It’s turned through the lining and sewn up through the zipper pocket to give a neat finish to the lining. The exterior features a slip pocket and zipped pocket with a flap for extra security. Inside the bag is a small zip pocket. Details are included to reduce and reposition the straps for adults and children.

It has two style options for the top of the bag: a boxy finish or a rounded finish. You can also choose a plain or cargo front pocket. There are no raw edges in the pattern so you can use cotton, cork or vinyl, provided your machine can manage it.
For the exterior fabrics, I recommend cotton, canvas or cork. You could use vinyl but make sure your machine is capable of sewing through multiple layers of vinyl. If you’re using cork or vinyl, don’t add the woven interfacing.

If you choose to use cork, vinyl, or similar for the front pocket and are using a domestic sewing machine, I recommend making the plain front pocket as the base is more difficult to fit with a bulky cargo pocket.

For the lining fabric, I recommend quilting cotton or similar.

Your fabric choices should be suitable to what your sewing machine can handle. If using a heavy fabric for the exterior, such as cork or vinyl, consider using cotton for the strap connectors and strap triangles. This will reduce bulk in the thickest seam on the back of the bag.
