About the Ojyma crossbody bag:

This bag was designed by Amy Hutton of BedHogShop. We saw her bag and decided this had to be made into a pattern, so with her help we made it happen. This little crossbody is fun to make and has ALL the pockets. A great everyday bag when you need something small that will allow you to keep your hands free. The name Ojyma is the combination of our names, Amy & Jo, spelt backwards. We recommend this as an intermediate pattern. In the video tutorial, we include extra tips in case it’s your first time sewing curves or binding.

About the Daythum sling bag:

The Daythum sling is a great bag to carry your everyday items but keep your hands free. It’s sized to fit a standard bottle of water, along with your wallet, keys, sunglasses, and other essentials so it’s really handy for walking and travelling, when you just need the essentials and don’t want a handbag hanging on your shoulder. On the back is a zip pocket. Because the pocket is against your body while the bag is in use, it’s a great place to keep your phone secure. We recommend this as an intermediate pattern. In the video tutorial, we include extra tips in case it’s your first time sewing curves or binding.

PLEASE NOTE that in order to make the bag, you’ll need the following things, none of which are included in the kit:

  • Good domestic sewing machine
  • Needles suitable to your machine, we recommend universal size 80/12 for the cotton, universal size 110/19 for the final topstitching step
  • Thread suitable to your machine
  • Cutting mat and tools, fabric scissors
  • Measuring tools such as a quilting ruler
  • Tailors chalk or erasable fabric pen
  • Rivet press and 9mm rivet dies (if you want to use the rivets, but they are optional)
  • Fabric glue or sewable double sided tape (not essential but will make things much easier)
  • Wonder clips or pins, to hold things in place
  • Seam ripper (none of us are perfect)

As both designs are intermediate patterns, we recommend that you have some sewing experience. Bag making experience will be very helpful, but full step by step photo instructions and a video tutorial are included. However, we often meet ones who have successfully made our intermediate bags for their first make even though they have no bag making experience what so ever, so it really does depend on the individual. If you’re feeling bold and confident that you want to give it a go then we say “go for it!” If you’re unsure, then give it a miss and we’ll make sure there’s a beginner friendly box sometime in the future.
