Little extra touches can make your handmade bag truly unique and stand out from the crowd. This is a quick guide for making bead zip pulls and adding a little bling to your bag. This post contains links to the items I purchased to make mine, however you may be able to find the same items in your local craft shop. What Supplies do you Need?
- Beads (I used 12-15mm beads with a 2mm minimum hole size)
- 10″ [25cm] Cord (1mm thick)
- Zip pull with a hole (or something to attach the cord to)
- Big eye beading needle
How to add bead zip pulls
It’s easier to attach the beads after the bag is finished so they won’t be in the way while you’re sewing the bag.
- Cut a piece of cord approximately 10″ [25cm] long
- Put the cord through the needle so it’s overhanging by approximately 2″ [5cm]
- Put the needle through the beads (if you’re having more than one bead, feed it through the bottom bead first)
- Then go through the hole in the zip pull, and back through the beads so the needle and cord are back where they started
- Remove the needle and tie the two pieces of cord together to form a knot directly under the beads (if the hole in the beads is large, you may need to tie a double knot)
- Trim the leftover cord and you’re all done!
Very Pretty! Im going to try this!
Great idea! I was so busy trying to master bag making techniques that It never occurred to me to add beads. I have lots of beads in my stash from beading projects!
