After many late evenings you have finalized the logo for your bag making business. But, how do you add your new branding to your bags? Even if you’re not running a small business, and bag making is a hobby for you, you may still want to add a logo or your name to it, as if adding your signature to a painting. Here are a few ways we have done it. There’s lots of other options on the market but we thought we’d share just a few with you.

The quickest and cheapest way to add your branding to your bag is a little label you can sew into the interior seam. You can use a pre-designed one or get some custom made. The only downside to this is that only the person using the bag will see it.

Exterior Label or Badge

One of our favorite ways is to sew a label or badge to an exterior panel, somewhere central. There are loads of places where you can order custom badges made from cork, leather or vinyl. If you’re being really fancy, you can even order metal ones that fit to your bag with screws or prongs. I like to use scraps of leather or cork and stamp them with a heated press we ordered from Etsy a while ago. This is quite an economical way of doing it and also means you use the color that suits your bag. The downside is that you need to remember to fit this part way through making the bag. I’ve lost count of the times I’ve forgotten to add ours!

Custom Zip Pullover

This is not the cheapest way to add your logo or branding to a bag, but it’s very easy and you’re less likely to forget it. We ordered some custom zip pulls a couple of years ago and we still use them now. You could use text, a logo, or something else that represents your craft. It’s so easy and it adds a real sense of quality to your bag. The downside is cost, as the minimum order quantity for zips is usually 100 or more per color. Jo likes this method so much she is currently designing a new custom zip pull.

One of our favorite ways is to sew a tag or badge onto an exterior panel, somewhere in the center. There are many places where you can order personalized cork, leather or faux badges. If you’re really fancy, you can even order metal models that fit your bag with screws or claws. I like to use scraps of leather or cork and stamp them with a heated press that we ordered from Etsy a while ago. This is a pretty economical way to do it and it also means you use the color that suits your bag. The downside is that you have to remember to adjust it halfway through making the bag. I can’t count the number of times I’ve forgotten to add ours!

CUSTOM ZIPPER SLIDER

It’s not the cheapest way to add your logo or branding to a bag, but it’s very easy and you’re less likely to forget it. We ordered custom zipper sliders a few years ago and still use them today. You can use text, a logo, or something else that represents your craft. It’s so easy and adds a real feeling of quality to your bag. The downside is cost, as the minimum order quantity for zippers is usually 100 or more per color. Jo likes this method so much that she is designing a new custom zipper pull.

  1. Would love to know where in the US I could purchase custom logo zipper pulls. If you might know can you please advise.

    Thank you,
    Dayna

    1. Hi Dayna, I’m not aware of anywhere in the US that makes them. Most people seem to purchase them from Alibaba in China, but there’s a lot of different suppliers on there so you have to be careful to get a good one. I’d recommend joining the Siahswag Facebook group if you’re not already in it, and checking out the recent posts. I know in the last few weeks there’s been a few people from the US chatting about where they source theirs – although I’m pretty sure they were all suppliers on Alibaba too, but it might help direct you to a good one! Hope that helps.

    2. Dayna, check Etsy … “Custom zipper pulls.” There are some options there. I didn’t find one exactly like CCD’s, but you may find something you like.
