In this blog post we want to share with you three ways to fit rivets<\/a>. If you\u2019re a bagmaker, there\u2019s a good chance you will use at least one of these methods regularly. Rivets are an essential part of bag making and allow you to add features to your bag that just aren\u2019t possible with normal sewing. Lets start with the most basic method. 1. Fitting Rivets Using Hand Tools.<\/h3>\n

This is where we started. You can buy these tools for under \u00a320 from common places like Amazon<\/a> or Etsy<\/a>. The set will include a setter base and a punch tool, both made from metal. You then use a hammer or mallet to set the rivets. It\u2019s important to make sure you use the correct size rivet with each hand tool set. When choosing the correct hand tool, the rivet size that is important is the “face” size, not the “post” size. The most common double cap rivet face size is 9mm, so you will likely want to buy a set that works with 9mm. Some sets work with multiple sizes. For example, we found a 10mm set works well for 9mm and 10mm size rivets. The downside of using hand tools is that there is a higher chance of damaging the rivet or setting them wonky. It can be quite hard to remove a rivet once it’s set, so ideally you want to get it right on the first attempt.<\/p>\n
